How much does a stairlift cost.

  • Unfortunately this difficult to answer as all stairlifts are made to order to your specifications. However, straight stairlifts are less expensive than curved ones, as curved staircases are are more complex to make. When we visit you and survey your stairs we will be able to give you an accurate price.

Does my lift come with a warranty ?

  • A minimum, 12 months warranty is included with every new stairlift.

What if my stairlift breaks down ?

  • In the unlikely event your stairlift breaks down we will come out either that day or the next day to fix it

How comfortable is it to ride a stairlift ?

  • How comfortable a ride will depend upon the model you purchase and any specific physical conditions that may be affected. The Acorn range incorporates a specific motor to ensure a smooth start and stop and gentle ride. 

How long does it take to install a Stairlift ?

  • Again this will depend upon the structure of the property and the length and complexity of the staircase. However, the Acorn straight lift should not take more than 3 hours to install on a typical staircase, and the curved one usually within a day.

How often should a Stairlift be serviced inspected ?

  • Stairlifts are mechanical devices and it is recommended they be serviced and inspected every 12 months. 

Is it difficult to get on and off the lift ?

  • No, the seat design swivels to allow you to get onto the lift safely at the top or bottom of the stairs. 

What happens if the lift has been left upstairs and I am downstairs ?

  • This is a common occurrence when two or more members of a household use the stairlift. The lifts are supplied with two hand held remote controls. By simply, pressing the remote control, the lift will be called up or down stairs.

What is the difference between a straight lift and a curved one ?

  • It referrers to the type of staircase. A straight vertical flight of stairs is fine for a straight lift. However, staircases that have corners, quarter landings or spirals in them will require a curved style stairlift.

What powers the stairlift ?

  • Electricity - 24 Volt (DC) battery.

Will my Stairlift still work in a power-cut ?

  • Yes, DC lifts are powered by on-board batteries that are charged via the mains. All Acorn lifts are DC and the integral battery management system ensures even in the event of mains power failure the lift will only commence a journey if there is sufficient power to complete it.

Can more than one person use the Stairlift ?

  • Yes, but not at the same time ! 

How easy is the lift to use ?

  • Very, simply pressing on the joystick located on the armrest in direction of travel and you move off steadily and smoothly.

How long will I have to wait for my Stairlift ?

  • This would depend on the results of the site survey which will take into account things such as the type of lift required, the staircase shape and the number of additional options required. Typically straight lifts should be able to be supplied between two and five days and curved lifts between two and four weeks.

How noisy is the lift ?

  • Most modern stairlifts are relatively quiet and you should be able to use it day and night without disturbing others.

How will I learn how to use the stairlift ?

  • Following installation you should also be given an in-depth demonstration of comfort and safety features, as well as a comprehensive list of checks before the engineer leaves so you can get to know your lift. In addition you should also receive a comprehensive user manual.

Is my house suitable for a stairlift ?

  • Homes come in many shapes and sizes; this is why the Acorn range has been specifically designed to be very versatile and capable of fitting snugly and unobtrusively to almost any staircase. 

What if something gets in the way of the stairlift ?

  • The lift has numerous safety sensors which automatically stop the lift if anything is detected in its path.

What maximum weight can a stairlift carry ?

  • The acorn 130 straight stairlift 280lbs (20 stone).
  • The acorn curved stairlift 265lbs (18.9 stone)
